Existing light switch

Existing wall switches in an older building are higher than the accessible reach ranges.  An office area is being renovated, are the existing switches requried to be lowered?

Answer: No, new controls or relocated controls shall be lowered to within accessible reach ranges (TAS 4.1.6(1)(b)) .  Existing controls may remain. Controls are not one of the elements required to be made accessible per TAS 4.1.6(2).  However, if an employee requires lower switches, it would certainly be considered reasonable accomodation to lower the switches and this would be required by the ADA, Title I.
